Poestenkill Library
Poestenkill Library is a converted house serving the town of Poestenkill (population of about 4,000). It is a bright, well-kept library using every bit of their limited space. I found a lot of ideas here- library scavenger hunts, lending out cake pans, having reading glasses available, using stairs to advertise, putting a picture next to honorary plaques to make them more significant, and a display using book art.
Upstairs (I didn’t see an elevator, the first floor is accessible) they have magazines, teen books, science fiction and some non-fiction. Perhaps putting the Sci-fi with the teens was to encourage cross-genre reading?
The Library has a 3D printer and put their objects on display. I think they charge for print-outs by weight of plastic used.
The library is open late more often than a lot of small libraries, open util 8:30 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Jane is visiting all 36 locations of the Upper Hudson Library System (see introduction)
OMG I loooove the library scavenger hunt idea!
