Finding Inspiration from #Dungeons&Dragons

I’ve been making a lot of felt things for my Etsy store– Pokeballs, an axolotl, and many things inspired by my love for Terry Pratchett books. I started thinking about what other inspiration I should draw from. There were already a lot of Harry Potter inspired crafts out there. Then I thought about this:

monster manual
Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Monster manual, 1978

I could do all the monsters in the manual! Hmm, maybe not. There’s 350 in there, and some of them are either too hard to create or ordinary animals made “giant”. Giant beaver? Giant crayfish?

The show Stranger Things uses two monsters from the manual, but it was interesting to see how different they are. The demigorgon in the show is actually a demogorgon in the book, and has two heads. The mind flayer looks like a squid monk.

So I think I’m going to make:

  • beholder
  • goblin
  • kobold
  • owlbear
  • dragon (of course)
  • gelatinous cube
  • griffon
  • lich
  • minotaur
  • remorhaz
  • unicorn

Anyone have a treasured monster from D&D, or another roleplaying game, that you’d like to see?
