Disney Movie Challenge: up to date

Onward, 2020-Pixar. A movie about brotherhood, magic and searching for a father figure (at least upper half of a father figure). I think the Manticore and the mom stole the show, but it was touching. Loved all the gamer references.

Luca, 2020-Pixar. a cute movie about sea monsters competing in a bicycle race. I didn’t get a deep connection to it, but I liked it. Silencio Bruno? Were they talking about Encanto?

Encanto, 2021 Our entire family loved this movie. My son has been playing the music over and over, my daughter pointed out some Easter eggs in the background, my husband randomly rewatched it one afternoon. Phenomenal music and a universally relatable story of someone who doesn’t see her own worth and trying to live up to family expectations.

Turning Red, 2022 This just came out, so no spoilers, but it is all about the awkward weirdness of puberty, the nostalgia of millennials, Chinese culture and helicopter parents. I found there to be too many embarrassing bits to be enjoyable for me, but not everything is written for me, and I’m ok with that.

Wow! That was….a lot. I got through the whole list! If you want the list, let me know. There were stinkers, there were amazing movies, there were shining bits in bad movies, and bad bits in shining movies. I wasn’t seeing one man’s work, I saw work done by thousands of men and women over the years- writers and artists and actors and musicians and engineers and so many other jobs I don’t even understand. Thank you. Thank you to the few people who followed along with these rambling thoughts during my marathon.
