Library Tour- Laconia NH

So, on vacation in New Hampshire, I had to visit a library. I find a lot of ideas and inspiration, and frankly, I need all the inspiration I can get (work kept coming up with disasters while I was away!)

The town of Laconia is near Lake Winnepausackie in New Hampshire. The public Library is hopping with programs, art and computers, and boasts three floors. From their website I see they just got an influx of new staff. The large building has a nice parking lot and a back garden with benches. The building was expanded in 2005.

I can tell that they have had a lot of people with creativity and heart working on this building, and I’m guessing they have some of the same struggles with getting repairs done that our library has, I saw some water damage on the chimney on the main floor that continued down into the children’s room in the basement. The third floor has a beautiful gallery with a overlook down into the circulation area. A reading room has a balcony with a statue on it, above a paneled reading room. There are historical objects, stained glass, paintings and an interesting (unfortunately blocked off) stairway. In the children’s room they have a separate, closed off area for story times, a place for play with seats for caregivers, and a beautiful full sized boat with mural.

A nice visit all in all. I hope that the new staff is given the support and funding they need to keep this a community hub and a beautiful building. Ideas I want to use: the shelf separators and the event posters for the teen events.

I’m trying something new and putting in a slideshow instead of an image gallery- let me know if it doesn’t work for you!
