Tucked away in a technology park, past medical offices, daycares, and other buildings, next to a PBS station and a pharmaceutical company, is a delightful little oasis of forest and water. The parking lot is next to the large satellite dishes of WMHT. Down the street you can see an office for Regeneron, a company that was in the news for COVID treatments in the early part of the pandemic.
I took my son, who took his new stick (club? cudgel? shillelagh?) and our dog, who wanted very badly to run the entire way. The trail loops around a stream that dives into a ravine, curves and ends in a culvert. There are two bridges and a rock crossing.
There are some steep sections to the trail, and cliffs without barriers. My husband warned me as I left that someone had fallen and had to be carried out a while back (thanks, dear!). I had walked this trail a few years ago with my daughter, and we had discussed the likelihood of my son taking an unexpected dive off the path.
It was hot and dry, the water was low, it would be interesting to see the contrast of the spring melt here. A few benches along the trail would provide a place of tranquil thought, listening to the waterfall, if I was doing this walk alone. There is the remains of a vehicle, perhaps a harvest wagon, that looks like it was tossed over the edge of a ravine by a farmer who was done with it.
My son enjoyed most of the walk, except for the steep part (fortunately our dog dragged him up the hill, stick and all). He would do it again, despite not liking heights.
