So, week two of trying out crochet. I’ve learned to make a chain and how to single crochet (why is it called single when it’s multiple steps?) So I picked up the kit again, this time with less confidence.
The first step is something I haven’t learned. Ugh. The kit calls it an “Adjustable loop” but it’s also known as a magic circle or magic loop. It’s a way to pull tight a circle and not leave a gap when you start.
I followed the instructions step by step. It fell apart. I looked in the books and followed those steps- I made a knot I couldn’t untie. I went to YouTube and tried a few tutorials. My son showed me how to slow down a video- we were giggling hysterically at the slowed down instructor, who sounded like she’d had a really busy night and could hardly function. I think it was the fourth person’s video that made sense and I made a magic circle. Great! I went to the kit and started it. I tied an un-tieable knot. I had to watch the video while making the loop to be able to do it.

I struggled along and made the body, the snout and the ears. I embroidered the eyes and nostrils. It doesn’t quite look like the picture, but I’m proud. I fixed a couple of holes. My daughter says it looks like Link Hogthrob, the muppet from Pigs in Space. Now I can’t unsee that.
I looked at the crochet monsters book, which is a great book, but beyond my current skill level. You can create your own customized monster using different components- they are so cute!
Speaking of the muppets, did you know there is a Muppet Crochet book? I’ve got that requested from the library.
