March was bread month for my “try a craft” journey. I learned that I don’t have the patience or interest needed to be a bread baker (or really any other baker/chef). Part of trying out new stuff is learning what I don’t like. If I was horrible at it, but really wanted to put my energy and curiosity into learning, that would be different. I would have to keep going, despite set backs.
Well, at least I know how to use the bread machine, right?
Right?
Uh… no. Measurements are important and if you are not used to using a scale, get some help or carefully read the manual. Also, yeast can die, and yeast is important. Still, I am not sure how I got a steaming pile of raw dough after the machine ran for the correct amount of time on the correct settings.

I sat and watched my husband make the next batch, seeing how he used the scale. We went step by step through the instructions for the recipe. But then he miscalculated milliliters for the water. With a sigh, he dumped it out and started over.

When the bread came out of the machine, it was actually bread this time. It did have a weird shape at the top- maybe a bubble of bread burst?

In April I am exploring stamping and printing, using pre-made stamps, making my own stamps, and trying out linoprinting. I think this will be much more to my liking.
