Quest-based Travel

Travel quest

Last year I took on a quest to see all the libraries in my library system, and I found it very enjoyable. The system turned it into a program, and thousands of people also enjoyed having a purpose behind their travels, pushing them to go places they would not have gone to otherwise. I now make a point to visit libraries when I travel, to add to my “collection.”

Now my husband has made a new quest for himself. He wants to see all the space shuttles he can. He saw the Enterprise in the Intrepid Museum in New York City, Atlantis at the Kennedy Space Center, and this week we went to see the shuttle Discovery in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center in Washington D.C. The last one is in California- but we’ll get there some day, I know it!

I think I’m going to add book stores to my quest list (Buzzfeed just made a list which has the fabulous Northshire bookstore on it). I can think of many possible lists, here’s a few:

  • Going to every state
  • Top rollercoasters
  • Historical sites related to a specific time period or person
  • Top zoos in the country
  • National Parks
  • Renaissance festivals
  • Waterfalls (sometimes it’s ok to go chasing them)
  • Caves
  • Famous landmarks
  • Baseball stadiums
  • Unique modes of transportation
  • Food quests (best ice cream, unique foods, themed restaurants)
  • Film locations
  • Regional festivals
  • Epic playgrounds
  • Sci-fi or Game conventions

Tell me what you’ve come up with for a travel quest!
